Each chapter shall have a Portfolio Manager and an Assistant Portfolio Manager. Both of these positions shall be appointed by the chapter president. The chapter president is eligible to fill either of these roles. All other chapter members shall be assigned the role of Analyst. Upon being appointed to the positions of Portfolio Manager and Assistant Portfolio Manager, both members should work toward their Equity Bloomberg Certifications.
Portfolio Manager The Portfolio Manager (PM) shall be responsible for the management of the Chapter’s portfolio in the Portfolio Competition, and preside over the Weekly Fund Meetings, following the agenda set forth in the Weekly Chapter Meetings section of this handbook. Prior to the weekly fund meeting the PM will review and approve all trades submitted by analysts. The PM has final decision-making authority on all trades in the portfolio. The PM does not have a coverage area but can make trade recommendations in any of the 10 sectors using the formal trade recommendation process with the recommendation openly discusses during the fund meeting. At the conclusion of each meeting the Portfolio Manager is responsible for executing all approved trades discussed during the meeting and rebalancing the chapter’s portfolio ensuring that position limits are not exceeded and that there is a positive cash balance. Assistant Portfolio Manager Chapters with 7 or more members are eligible to have an Assistant Portfolio Manager. The Assistant Portfolio Manager will assist the Portfolio Manager in the operation of the portfolio and in presiding over the weekly fund meetings. The Assistant Portfolio Manager will preside over the fund meeting and execute the Portfolio Manager’s duties in the event of the Portfolio Manager’s absence. The Assistant Portfolio Manager does not have a coverage area.
Deputy Assistant Portfolio Manager Chapters with 12 or more members are eligible to have a Deputy Assistant Portfolio Manager. The Deuputy Assistant Portfolio Manager will assist the Portfolio Manager and Assistant Portfolio Manager in the operation of the portfolio and the weekly fund meetings. The Deputy Assistant Portfolio Manager does not have a coverage area.
Analyst Each Analyst will be responsible for a coverage area as assigned by the Portfolio Manager. Each coverage area will follow the Global Industry Classification System (GICS), with each chapter free to stratify GICS as they deem appropriate. Each Analyst is responsible for maintaining a base of knowledge about the companies within their coverage area, monitoring news and price action. Analysts will research companies and present trade ideas from within their assigned coverage area, and present their recommendations at the weekly Fund Meetings using appropriate form within the Trade Recommendation section of this website.
